Metacritic.com - the overall source for all the movies and music ratings you'd need. Get any review you want there, ranked in numerical order about how they liked a film on a scale of 1-100. GREAT site. I use it for work now and I will use it for everything else I'm sure.
Bookcrossing.com - another great site. If you don't have a great library and you want to trade, watch how far your book goes and get reviews from all over. Free your books! IT is one of 100 best undiscovered websites on PC mag.
Why do dentists get less respect than doctors? This leads to another question: why is it that when i'm at the dentist, they are taking care of my health but also "selling" me on every service i "need"? I wonder if they were paid more, or if there was better dental insurance out there, would there be as much second -guessing of their credibility.
I've finally grown tired of my newly acquired freedom. I want Sam back! I was doing fine with our separation this summer until these last few days. We're both realizing how it feels to be without each other. And anyone who wants to call me.... now would be a good time. I'm in need of company. (hope this doesn't sound too pathetic.)
I officially have a gmail address! I feel so current! Thanks Thuy and Thanh! What's even better is that Sam still hasn't got one. haha.
My new gmail address is breean@gmail.com
Television is satisfying me more than most movies these days. This is my favorite show. I've tried to get everyone who doesn't have HBO to rent the first season, and the second season (due in July). We have 6FU discussions at work. It's a very social endeavor.
I found a song I've been searching for since 1996. Can you believe 8 years have past and this tune's importance didn't diminish. It is actually a little ditty by Yann Tiersen- the composer of the Amelie soundtrack. The song is Rue des Cascades. I think I'll try to fit it into our wedding somehow. If you recall, the last time this happened was a few months ago when I found the name of a song that I owned but couldn't identify- it was the Cocteau Twins. Equally bewitching pieces of music.
This one is one I can recommend to everyone because I know we're all trying to find our niches. Go to www. findyourspot.com and answer the 8 pgs of questions. Its worth it. You'll have to hand over your real address, I gave my work one, but make sure that you check NO SOLICITING. You'll be matched with the best cities that fit your criteria. Sam and I both had Portland top our lists. When another friend got Portland also, I was suspicious. But my sister got a lot of different answers. Still, there may be a conspiracy behind it that is pushing Oregon cities to prospective residents.
I spent all night trying to organize my music. I've been downloading at a rate I can't keep up with and now everything has to be listened to and rearranged. I still am desperately hoping that some of you will give me songs to use for our wedding to dance to. They don't have to be about love, can just be good dancing music. Please no Britney Spears Toxic though!
Everyone asks me how I like it in Ithaca on my own. And I have to say that I'm enjoying myself. If Sam had left during the winter for 70 days, it would be much worse. But right now, the sun makes me happy and its beautiful here. I won a bet today, I guessed that a friend's baby wouldn't be born till after today and I was right! I just won $20, and I'm letting all the losers go out to lunch with me for free vietnamese food.
Liked her fiction in this week's new yorker issue. Good thing too, cause I invested a lot of time reading it. Some short stories stay with you through your life as a sort of impression, or experience you can draw from. Others, no matter how well written, flit away until all that you have left is a mood you swung.
Has anyone heard the magic that is Sufjan Stevens? It's a religious experience to listen.
I have disappeared off this website. It's not because Sam isn't here to urge me on, or because I'm tired at the end of the day after work. Sometimes I need time to just breathe in silence. So far, this summer I've spent more time seeing movies than reading, which kind of alters my conscious. I'm realizing how healthy reading is for me. Two books I'd recommend are Shutter Island (by the author of mystic river) for a mystery. And Providence of a Sparrow, for something eccentrically different, and contemplative. Also, the movie Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter,Spring again is a must see for anyone I know. I loved it and even though there are a few snakes, its worth seeing because its exquisite and Buddhist and suddenly surprising.
Happy 27th!! You will live a long, long life kiddo!
I love my new job. The best thing about it is that I finally have people that I can hang out with that I can consider my friends, not Sam's friends. With that, I don't feel like anything else is lacking in my life. I could stay in Ithaca for years now. The other great benefit is that I get to see any movies at any theater around here for free (and Sam does too!). We're really going to enjoy this. We may be able to cancel Netflix after we get caught up. And then we'll cancel HBO after this season of Six Feet Under. (thinking of all the money we'll save...)
